As we celebrate Women’s History Month, it is clear that the fight for gender equality remains far from over. Despite decades of progress, we are now facing an organized and systematic pushback against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)—a movement deeply rooted in the fight for women’s rights. Why DEI and Women’s Rights Are Inseparable

The history of DEI is deeply intertwined with the women’s rights movement. During the feminist waves of the 1950s and 60s, women fought for inclusion in the workplace, sparking conversations about intersectionality. This concept highlighted the diverse experiences of women based on factors such as race, ability, and socioeconomic background. DEI was born from this recognition, making it clear that the fight for equality must address the unique challenges faced by all women.

Today, this progress is under threat. With DEI programs being rolled back in major organizations, we are witnessing widening gender gaps in leadership, pay, and opportunities. The data is stark—only 29% of women hold global C-suite positions, and this number drops drastically for women of color. These barriers are not just numbers; they represent a systemic issue that requires urgent action.

Representation Is Not Enough

This year’s theme, Accelerating Action, calls for more than representation. It demands reshaping industries, dismantling barriers, and ensuring that women are not just present at the table but leading it. Gender equality has always been about power—who holds it, who shares it, and who is excluded from it. True progress requires structural change, not just performative policies.

The systems we operate within must transform—not through theoretical commitments, but through measurable and enforceable actions. Leaders, both men and women, must take an active role in dismantling barriers and creating pathways for women to succeed. This is not just about individual success; it’s about collective progress.
